Autodesk University 2010 – from afar this year

I’ve been under motivated to blog about Autodesk University 2010 this time around – mostly because I’m in denial about not going in person.  It is always my favorite conference of the year – so much information, so much cool new technology, so many people to meet – old friends and new.  But this year life got in the way.  Wasn’t it John Lennon who said something like Life is what happens when you’re making other plans.  Yeah, I could Google and verify the quote, but lets go with it how I remember.  That certainly has been this year – a year full of life trumping my other plans.

Anyway, back to AU 2010.  Our Plant team, as usual,  has a host of events, classes, keynotes, receptions for the Plant Community.  One highlight will be the Plant Keynote scheduled for Wednesday Morning.  Here’s a teaser video showing a Plant Model created with AutoCAD Plant 3D 2010, which I understand Dave Tyner will be presenting.

AutoCAD P&ID 2011 & Plant 3D 2011 Service Pack 1 now available

We’re release updates to AutoCAD P&ID 2011 and AutoCAD Plant 3D 2011.  They are available from the Autodesk website under AutoCAD P&ID Services & Support or AutoCAD Plant 3D Services & Support.

This is what we fixed in SP1. More details, of course, will be in the readme.

AutoCAD P&ID 2011 SP1 Fixes

• STRETCH IN P&ID When using stretch in P&ID, the annotations would either not move, or move twice the desired distance. This has been corrected so the annotation will move correctly.
• LINE GROUPING/OFF PAGE CONNECTOR INTERACTION IN P&ID. When placing an offpage connector, the line grouping would dissolve. This has been corrected.

AutoCAD Plant 3D 2011 SP1 Fixes (also include the AutoCAD P&ID 2011 SP1 fixes above)

• METRIC/MIXED METRIC VALVE INSERTION. For Metric & Mixed Metric projects, Valves without actuators (like check valves) stop working. Port information is mangled and these valves can no longer be properly connected.
• PERFORMANCE Various performance improvements, in particular in Ortho Generation, graphical modeling performance, port array size.
• ERRONEOUS SPEC UPDATE NOTIFICATION WHILE MODELING The Spec update notification balloon was showing up even when there were no changes to the spec. This notification has been disabled.
• PRIORITY OF PARTS FROM SPEC If there was more than one part of a type in a spec, the system was not reading the part priority properly. This was most visible when there is more than one flange type in a spec. This has been fixed so the part insertion follows the users set priority
• ISOMETRIC TEXT NOT DISPLAYING PROPERLY IN SOME REGIONS For Chinese, Japanese and Russian character sets, text was not displaying correctly on the Isometrics. The issue has been corrected. BOM text should come across correctly after applying the service pack. Annotation formats may need to be edited by the user in Project Setup before they will display properly. See the readme for more information on how to do these annotation setup edits.
