lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer
Some weeks, there is so much going on that it’s tough to find time to write. This week was one of them, as we had an internal advanced training on the P&ID product. I mostly was there to facilitate while our developers taught in-depth topics. This was somewhat a dry run for two of the Autodesk University classes, namely Customizing AutoCAD P&ID: Tags, Annotations, and Symbols and Programming AutoCAD P&ID : API, Integration and Customization. It went well, and we left with a bunch of wishlist items. Advanced users can be tough audiences, but I love doing these classes as the feedback they give is wonderful.
The Plant Team also went to a Giants baseball game this week. Not that we have many Giants fans on the team – but we do have Matt Rodgers, who brought a glove and actually paid attention to the game. The rest of us pretty much decided to just do whatever Matt did – if he cheered, we cheered. If he sighed, we sighed. If he scratched . . . oh, never rnind. It was fun to pretend to be into the game. Unfortunately, Barry Bonds bobble-head dolls were sold out, so I had to spend my money on refreshments. We had one of our support guys (Dan) in from England, who compared the game to “rounders”. I think that was an insult, but you can’t always tell with the Brits.
The team brought at least 3 laptops and countless blackberrys. (Our team-building events apparently have a 3 laptop minimum.) You actually do get a lot of work done at these sort of events – getting the chance to talk through issues that have been simmering, and learning what is going on with everyone. Although at the fourth inning it was decreed (by Matt) that the use of “DLL” in conversation was no longer allowed at the ballgame. All in all, it was a great team-building event, and helped us all to remember how grateful we are to be working with such a great group of people on such a great product.
The Giants lost.

San Diego Padres won, but I have no idea the score. I do know Barry didn't play in this game. Oh well.
