Substitution Palettes

Time for a geeky blog:  One of the nifty features in AutoCAD P&ID 2007 is the in-place substitution palettes that will show up next to a component when you press its substitution grip (that's the grip that looks like a down-pointing triangle).

Can I get my own symbols onto the  substitution palette?  Yes!  You can put one symbol per class onto the palette.  Here's how you do it:

After you have added your symbol to the project (If you don't know how to add your own symbols, ping me.  There are a number of avi's and white papers around on how to do this that I can point you to.):

1.  Be sure the set that class's GraphicalClassStyle property to be the name of your new symbol's style.  This would be done in the node for that class under Class Property Settings.  (This is the hardest part!)

2.  Navigate to your project directory and find SubstitutionPalettes.xml.  Erase it.

3.  Also erase the Images subdirectory which is in the project directory.

That it.  The next time you try to use the Substitution Grip, it will remake the palettes with your new GraphicalStyles.
