Hello! Welcome to the inaugural posting of the Autodesk Plant blog. As I imagine you’ve gathered, Autodesk is focused on offering Plant solutions—starting with a P&ID package. So it seems the right time to also launch a blog to give you insight about our thinking and direction, to give a space for tips and tricks, and to give a forum to connect with our customers.
So here I am, here at Autodesk University in Las Vegas—woo hoo! (my first trip to Vegas, believe it or not). Those of you attending can see and test-drive the P&ID package live. P&ID is in late beta, and there are several AU classes that explore different aspects of the program. We have a booth on the floor and also a “quick spin” lab; both are great places to experience this program first-hand.
Before you ask: Yes, P&ID is AutoCAD-based. Yes, the file format will be DWG. Yes, it takes advantage of all the latest AutoCAD functionality. Yes, we are committed to offering a complete integrated solution for Plant—starting with P&ID.
It’s really cool to be able to work on a project that allows one to build a new solution that incorporates everything I’ve learned through the years of working in Plant software. It’s fun to be in on the ground floor of a new product and to watch it develop. Plus, I find that San Francisco is just as interesting as New Orleans was for a hometown – these days, maybe even better.
I’ll be blogging periodically in this space. I’d like to hear comments and suggestions on whatever topics you are interested in seeing covered. My email is in the link above. Real world feedback is highly valued here… Seriously
I figure I’d wrap this first posting with the list of rejected names we had for this blog. Have fun guessing which one I voted for/vetoed:
